Delivering moments that float – reliably, at scale and on time
Bubblegum Balloons is a specialist retailer of inflated helium balloon gifts and large-scale balloon installations, supplying consumers and partners across the UK for some of the most time-sensitive moments in the calendar — from Valentine’s Day surprises to major seasonal celebrations.
With a highly distinctive product that ships fully inflated, delivery reliability and carrier suitability are critical to customer satisfaction and brand reputation.
The challenge
Bubblegum Balloons’ products are shipped inflated in large, white, square boxes measuring approximately 800–900mm in height. These non-standard dimensions created challenges with traditional parcel carriers, particularly during Peak periods when volume surged sharply around key gifting occasions.
The business needed:
A delivery partner that could support them to consistently handle oversized boxes
Reliable capacity on Peak trading days
Clear performance visibility for premium delivery services

The solution
GFS worked closely with Bubblegum Balloons to transition their core parcel volumes with suitable carriers, selecting services better suited to oversized, lightweight consignments.
Key elements of the solution included:
A scheduled collection uplift every Thursday – Bubblegum Balloons’ busiest despatch day
Direct liaison with carrier partner local depot to enable additional sweeps when volumes exceed forecast
Ongoing account management to monitor service performance, especially around premium timed deliveries
This approach ensured capacity was available when it mattered most, without compromising delivery promises to end customers.
Delivery profile and peak performance
Bubblegum Balloons experiences highly concentrated volume peaks aligned to gifting occasions:
- Typical Thursdays: 200–300 parcels
- December 2025: 4K+ parcels despatched
- Valentine’s Day peak: Approximately 700 parcels in a single day
- Key peak periods: Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Halloween
Despite these sharp spikes, service levels have remained consistently strong.
2025 delivery performance:
97.34% on-time
(Impacted primarily by tighter 10:30am and midday services)
Supporting a unique product
Bubblegum Balloons ships inflated helium balloons treated with a specialist internal coating to extend inflation time. While inflation longevity cannot be guaranteed due to the nature of the product, reliable transit times are essential to maximise presentation quality on arrival.
Flexible delivery options allow customers to choose a service that matches the importance of the occasion, including Saturday delivery and same-day local delivery using Bubblegum Balloons’ own drivers.

“Because we ship our balloons fully inflated, delivery isn’t just a logistics issue for us; it’s central to the customer experience. GFS really understood that from the start. Switching carriers solved our box-size challenges, and the local depot support on our busiest days has been a game changer. Even during peaks like Valentine’s Day and December, we know our orders are going out on time, which gives us real confidence in the service.”
