UPS EU Deforestation Regulation:

We would like to inform you of a regulatory change that may affect your shipments to and from the European Union (EU).

The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) introduces new requirements for shipments containing certain commodities and their derived products, including palm oil, cattle, soy, coffee, cocoa, timber, rubber, and products such as wooden furniture, coffee, chocolate products, and paper products.

These requirements apply to B2B and B2C commercial activities involving covered commodities and derived products(for a full list of products in scope, refer to Annex I).

To support compliance with this regulation, shipments containing goods covered by the EUDR will be required to include a Due Diligence Statement (DDS) reference number in customs declarations. The regulation aims to reduce global deforestation by strengthening supply chain traceability and trade controls. Key compliance dates are as follows:

  • Large and medium-sized operators and traders: Compliance required from 30 December 2026
  • Micro and small operators and traders: Compliance required from 30 June 2027.

Any business commercially importing into the EU, or exporting from the EU, should prepare by collecting the following information:

  • Quantity, supplier, and country of production details
  • Evidence of legal production, including geolocation coordinates of the production plots.

To obtain a DDS reference number, impacted businesses must submit a DDS through the EUDR Information System.

The resulting DDS reference number(s) must be included in customs declarations and transmitted electronically to UPS via the relevant fields in UPS shipping systems. This information is essential for EUDR compliance and to facilitate smooth customs clearance.
