Please find below the latest service update from the GFS COVID-19 Response Team.

The information is being collated by our Operations lead for the GFS Response Team. We remain in constant contact with all our UK and Global Delivery Partners to ensure that we have the most detailed understanding of the current situation, potential impact on deliveries.

GFS has now enacted our Business Continuity Plans across all sites and we continue to operate our business as normal with no disruption to our Service or Support.

To see all other announcements regarding services, please scroll down the page to the previous updates.

UK Parcel Deliveries

DPD has today introduced a new process to reduce the contact between the consignee and the DPD driver at the point of delivery. As part of this process DPD is no longer asking your customers to sign handheld units and instead DPD drivers will sign it on their behalf. DPD will record the consignees name and a ‘Delivered on Authority’ message in the signature section of the unit. You will still get your full track and trace functionality via GFS Seeker. DPD has advised that this now forms part of their proof of delivery process for all deliveries until further notice.

Hermes have also implemented “contact free delivery”. Customers will be asked to nominate a “safe place” which can be done through the Hermes app. If a safe place hasn’t been chosen then the courier will leave it in a safe place and take a photo which will be included in the delivery notification email. For parcels requiring signatures, couriers will do this on behalf of customers if they wish to avoid unnecessary contact.

International Parcel Deliveries

We are aware that there is currently a shortage in Air Cargo capacity to the United States, this is affecting some deferred US services.

Please be assured that GFS has a number of different carrier service options into the US and that Air Express services such as those we offer through DHL Express are not affected.

If you have any concerns whatsoever about continuation of service to the US then your Account Manager will be pleased to discuss in full detail.

Update posted – Saturday 14th March 2020

Neil Cotty - CEO at GFS

At GFS we are taking the COVID-19 outbreak very seriously, I wanted to update you on the steps we have already taken, and are planning to take, as the situation continues to evolve.

We have issued guidance to our staff, based on advice from the Government, Public Health England (PHE) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), to help prevent further spread of the virus.

So far, our business has not experienced any direct operational impact and we continue to operate as ‘business as usual’.

We have extensive business continuity plans in place to mitigate impact on our network, service and deliveries, and we will continue to review and, where necessary, exercise our plans in light of this rapidly developing situation.

In addition to this, we are liaising extensively with our carrier partners in order that we have an in-depth understanding of any changes of process and continuity plans in order to identify & minimise any potential disruption to deliveries.

At the time of writing, there is no reported impact on any UK network. However, there remains some limited impact on international deliveries to areas severely affected by the virus. These areas will continue to be monitored and updates will be provided by GFS on an ongoing basis.

We will continue to work within the latest Government guidance, and if the situation develops, we are prepared to react appropriately to maintain, where possible, service as normal. You will be notified of any potential circumstances which may affect service performance at the earliest possible opportunity.

Our primary concern is the welfare of our colleagues and our customers. As always, we are on hand to answer any questions you might have, so please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.

For more information on how you can mitigate the spread of COVID-19, please visit the Department of Health website: https://www.gov.uk/government/topical-events/coronavirus-covid-19-uk-government-response.

Thank you for all your support, let’s do our best to keep one another safe.
